May I wish Russ Courtney a speedy recovery.

I had a severe Appendicitis blow up when I lived in West Vancouver. I arrived at Lion's Gate Hospital. Doctor said - sign this release form!" I said - "I gotta read it first." He said - "You have 30 minutes to live." I signed .

Was in that hospital for 10 days. They only sent me home because of a nurses strike. But I was in bed at home for a few more weeks.

All the best to you Russ Courtney. John Moore is a great talent and he will be fine......

Thanks again RadioActive - I really don't have any idea of this picture. Where it  happened, nor why or when. And I have no memory of Bob McAdorey being involved with the Music Hop Show.

There appears to be a giant letter - C - just above Alex's arm . That would tie McAdorey into the shot. However, I never worked at CHUM - AM. And so it remains a mystery.

The other question is - what is the something that Alex and I are looking at just off camera to the left?

BTW -  I am stunned by the number of folks who have mentioned seeing this picture during the ABC TV show.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Alex and I worked together on Music Hop Toronto CBC Network for the first year. The day of the 2nd season launch Alex had an appendix attack. He missed the first of the second season and didn't return to the show. (I do not know the back-story on that) I think we did another 4 seasons.

I have no recollection of where, when and why this pic was taken.

Music Hop was the launching pad for many artists - including: Gordon Lightfoot, David Clayton Thomas, Shawn and Jay Jackson and many more.

Stan Jacobson was the Producer of Music Hop. He later went on to Produce the wonderful program - Hello! I'm Johnny Cash. It was produced at a US Network.

Last night on my show I told a few stories from those days about Alex and I. 80 years ain't bad. God Speed Alex....RIP

First - I agree with Geo. Especially with regards Bob Laine.

Second - when a station only has '30' songs in rotation - and adding new songs at the rate of 2 a month - "new" lasts a very long time.  :-)

A follow up to my previous note about the access to world wide radio. Oddly enough - most of the stations I listen to on my Internet receiver are ...... wait for it -  AM. :-)

From a small station in Minnesota to AM's in Western Europe. And from time to time 640 etc.

The involvement of Reynolds and Shannon is a fascinating addition to the story. Do you still have copies of the record? Did it sell? And did other stations ever play it?
Discogs says it's selling for $14.99 if you feel the need to really clean-up! https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons3/cheerful.png

DM - I have it on CD and I'm sure there is a copy somewhere around here. I don't keep any of my music in alphabetical order. Makes it more challenging when doing my live shows, as I don't have a before show playlist. The only song I pick is my first one.  Someone in Florida and another in Arizona keep track as I play the show. The result looks like this - https://rave-and-roll.com/?s=%22Marsbar+Playlist%22

I do not remember if there was ever sales or money earned.

A follow up to set the "record straight" (some will get the humor there)

The A side of that single was Granny Kitch. Both songs were produced by Stan Klees (who I still consider a friend) Joey Reynolds and Tommy Shannon. It was recorded at a studio in Buffalo The back-up band was The Rebels - known mostly for their hit song Wild Weekend.

And yes both sides did get airplay and I probably performed them on Music Hop. Which I was hosting at the time. Dear Mr. DJ also got some play. I think I remember Walt or Stan telling me it was being played by a country station. It was spoken word and there was a country singer of fame who did a lot of spoken word songs at the time.

And - I usually play Granny Kitch during my Annual Halloween Show - now on NYTheSpirit.com

Here is what Discogs has to say about it......Dave Mickie ‎– Dear Mr. D.J.Label:Tamarac Records ‎– TTM 604Format:Vinyl, 7", 45 RPM, SingleCountry:CanadaReleased:01 Jun 1964Genre:RockPopStyle:Novelty

BTW - I just found out there are some of these being sold thru various internet sites.  d

I watch TV with Over The Air antennae. Also Netflix and a box. But the box less and less.

In the last few days Global TV has disappeared. Before it would be on 41-1. Now nothing. I am aware that some channels have moved and I have refreshed my channels several times in the past week....everything is great except for Global who seem to be missing in action.

Also the ION 4 or 5 channels are great, also tho I don't really need that many shopping channels . ..... any suggestions.....Thanks

I know some may be surprised to learn Rush were played on CFNY.

As Ivar Hamilton (at that time he was Music Director at CFNY) wrote on Facebook - What is shown is David at CHUM-FM Circa 1974 and later at CFNY in 1980. David is now acknowledged by Alex Lifeson as the first DJ to EVER play Rush on the radio. I

DM - I didn't want this to be about me - alas just setting the record straight. I think its a great bit of animation and in particular the memory of Neil Peart. The comments on the YouTube playback of this are truly amazing with well over 100,000 views.

This is very sad news. Greg was one of those people.

You know - the ones that could always be counted on. During his time in our business, he was always a solid rock. Always there with a smile and waving across the room. Yes he was always across the room, because Greg could be counted on to make an event a success. And a celebration.

Greg was in the centre of some amazing and great moments in the land radio events....

After learning that Greg Simpson has put on his wings we can only say - we love you.

Good Night Greg. God Speed.

Do the radio spots give a Code for 10% off (or any dollars or percentage)? Those codes usually relate to the call sign, frequency or announcer name?

Often that is code is how the station gets it's money. Number of codes mentioned equals how much the client pays the radio/TV station. IE - call right now and mention (insert code/calls here) and get 10% off.

Just a possibility.  d

Speaking of Roger Abbott....he was an acquaintance of mine.

I'm guessing everyone here knows that Roger was Director of Operations at CKGM-AM - Montreal. I don't recall the year but it was a long time ago. This just prior to CKGM-FM becoming a super Progressive station.

It's also when I crossed the hall from AM to FM. When I did that, all the AM folks told me I was making a mistake, saying FM wasn't going anywhere - it was for old ladies. Cars don't even have FM radios - they told me. :-)

Roger was indeed a creative mind and in addition to that - an incredibly kind and gentle man. Sadly he put on his wings much too soon.
