The second alert was on City, and included Halton in the warning area...   I live in Burlington which is part of Halton Region....   again no alert on either of our phones (Rogers). And nothing on my work phone (Telus)...

I'm still in the basement......

So CBC carries the committee hearing on the main network...  and they have Rosie cut in and announce that Nfld. and Atlantic viewers will be now be getting their local news... fair enough.

And then at 5:30 during Telford's testimony, they cut in again to announce that the main net is leaving the testimony, and it continues on News Network, the web etc., blah, blah...

And what did Ontario viewers get entertained with? A ten year old episode of that Fremantle staple... "Bondi Vet"

I'm sure that they could have stayed with the Telford testimony for another 30 minutes instead of bailing to Dr. Chris and the Bondi gang....

It was a great show. Even the actors could barely restrain their laughter. The sketches involving Tim Conway were incredible.

It will indeed be interesting to see (TV) and hear (Radio) how it is handled.

I agree with you RA, that the shock and awe factor will be there for the first hour or so, and then it becomes a sport or theatre for the true purists of politics.

I'm not a producer, but if I were, I'd be angling to go live earlier to layout for the audience what we know, how we have got to this point, and what is expected to transpire. And then carry it for the hour or so. After that I'd want to do half hour bulletins, and then have another team ready to delve in and analyze in depth at 6pm or on the supper hour newscasts.

The question that does come to mind given the fact that this is the middle of summer, is do the various stations and outlets have enough seasoned experienced staff available to be both in front of the cameras and mics, as well as producing and operating in the booths?

ie. Remember that Corus just said "goodbye" to a number of staffers just last week....

No word yet on how this impacts ET Canada...

Keep in mind that Barb Williams is no longer with Global/Corus, and ET Canada was always her pet project... so it was always protected from major restructuring efforts under Barb's watch...

Not that there have not been changes over the years... Kim D'eon, Rosey Edeh, and Rick Campanelli are all gone from the original host line-up...

So far, most of the staff impacted by yesterday's restructuring announcement have been on the digital news side... most, but not all...   Global under Shaw, and then under Corus always has a habit of using a broom with a wider sweep when they are "restructuring"...

"Brown says there was no warning to staff before the screening about the racial slur they would hear. The N-word was used a dozen times in the documentary — in 911 calls, in trial testimony and by a white woman who insisted it had no racial connotation.

Near the end of the documentary, the white mother of a young woman convicted of a hate crime met with the Black judge who presided over her daughter's trial. After that conversation, the mother agreed she should no longer use the N-word.

Sources who were present at the screening say two Fifth Estate employees — host Gillian Findlay and editor Loretta Hicks — used the N-word in staff discussions about the documentary immediately following the screening.

Witnesses in the room at the time described Findlay as quoting a person from the documentary that had just been shown to the group.

In an emailed statement, Findlay said she didn't recall saying the N-word but is sorry if she did.

"Over the course of 15 months, I have revisited that day many times," the statement said. "I have never had — and do not now have — a recollection of repeating the documentary's use of the word myself. If, however, my memory is wrong, and I did quote someone from the film using the word, I apologize. It should not have happened. "

Further,  the Canadian government / Federal Cabinet has extended the closure of the Canada / US border of another 30 days...  the current order was to expire on July 15th (tomorrow) so this extension will now be in place to mid August...  allows for "essential trade and travel only".

Not sure how it will be "spun" when a US cameraman from Florida, or an EVS operator from Texas ends up coming down with COVID 19 while working on one of these broadcasts in T.O.

(The US nets gave up their own truck fleets, and staff crews years ago...  NBC was the first to do so. They now rely on contract mobile units from US companies...  and free-lance crew/operators).

Maybe Bettman has made a deal to hire Trudeau et famille to present an award or give a keynote speech at the NHL awards...  https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons3/devil.png

So, this is what Trudeau will have to square...  'cause it is ultimately on him...

Dr. Njoo, The Deputy Chief Public Health Officer is answering questions on the daily Public Health presser... (if you can review it, check between 12:18 to 12:30 pm ET).

* The Public Health service is still very concerned with people/crowds assembling in bars and restaurants and potential air borne spread/transmission among patrons who typically would be in these establishments for longer periods of time.

* When you look at baseball, the Blue Jays were able to train in Toronto, and house players/personnel in an adjacent hotel, so it was a self contained isolation bubble, and posed very low or minimal risk to the public. However, when you look at regular play, then you introduce players leaving the country to play in the US, and then returning. As well, US teams travelling to Toronto to play.

* From an epidemiology perspective, Canada and the USA are very, very different.  Canada and Canadians have acted and handled measures quite well and this has allowed us to flatten the curve here in Canada.

12:37 pm - Specific question on the Broadcast / Crewing situation.  "The discussion is on-going, but the overall discussion has only centred on the Players and key team personnel"...   "Protocols would have to be followed... quarantine, regular testing and social distancing for any persons need to support or produce these games".

So not sure what has been agreed to...  I've heard both ends....  some colleagues who are currently not working (and are here in the GTA area) are fuming and say they are out, its a done deal, ...   and then after just listening to Dr. Njoo, it seems that the framework and agreement in place for the NHL only applies to Teams (players, coaches, trainers etc.)

That is the question...  and cross border travel / border travel exemptions are the jurisdiction of the federal level of government not the provincial.

Last I recall, the health screening and 14 day self isolation protocols were still in place...

It will be interesting to see if this travel is deemed essential or non-essential...

I'm not a ND, or Assignment Editor / Producer, but you are right...  not something which is normally covered. The only exception(s) I can recall is when the tragic event has resulted in significant disruption to the general public at large.

For instance, when someone ends their life by jumping from a high elevation to a major highway of arterial road below.  Police (and other emergency services) will always set up a perimeter to limit traffic and potential injury to others at such a situation. This could be in the form of a highway closure or detour.  People have a general right to know what is happening, just not the specific details.

So it can be reported as "closure due to an on going police situtation" or,  "as a result of a person in crisis or distress"...

My brother has friend who was a supervisor/inspector on the TTC subway.  I remember him telling us that when ever you heard the announcement saying "Union 40, Union 40, call control"  that that was TTC code for someone who has ended up on the tracks.. typically a suicide by jumping.

WBBZ transmits on VHF RF 7, the 67.1 is the virtual channel...  VHF at around 29 kw, and a general lack of height relative to other broadcasters in the Western N.Y. area.

Their transmitter / antenna is located on a former AT&T microwave relay tower in Springville N.Y. just s/w of Colden N.Y.

I've been able to pick them up here in Burlington, but only for a few weeks at a time, and generally towards the end of August or mid September.

I'm a former Bell customer, but never had the "pleasure" of their Fibe TV service...

However, a neighbour across the street was one on the first in our area to subscribe to the service when it became available in our area. She had Bell back 5 or 6 times over the course of a month and after the initial install. She said it never worked reliably (the Fibe service) She also had Bell internet. She ended up going back to cable...

My in laws have had Bell Fibe for the past 5 years... nightmare... they were initially on a 2 yr. term... they have stayed with Bell and their monthly bill is just over $200.00   (phone, internet and Fibe TV)

A friend had it in his takeout sandwich shop.... just tuned to CP24... it would buffer or drop out . On other occasions, the decoder box would just go off-line "due to inactivity" So, being "tuned" to a specific channel for a prolonged period of time is "inactivity" ??? He eventually got rid of it.

Your mileage may vary...
