Possibly. That said, however, there is no need for them to beat us over the head with it. Let the work speak for itself. (And, BTW, doing "both sides" is not journalism. Journalism is reporting facts.)

WWJ-AM(Newsradio 950)in Detroit just turned 100 on August 20th. KDKA-AM in Pittsburgh will turn 100 on November 2nd.

In our neck of the woods, WBEN turned 90 a few days ago(but in actuality, its existence goes back even further to 1922). And yes, it did get mentioned on air.

Just one more thing: All parts of the KNX special are available(PLUS a KNX jingle from the 1980s).

Ashley Holder, who just joined WGRZ in Buffalo for weekend sports anchor duties as well as reporting, can relate. She mentioned on social media that a guy wrote her on Twitter "and said I need to wear a bigger dress on TV-I wonder if this works for him?" and she included a photo. Ashley added that "Women should wear whatever they feel great and comfortable in!" And she's been getting a lot of support from not only her fellow reporters, but others as well.

I would add, too, that I wish female anchors and reporters would be judged on the work they do, not on how they look. This is journalism, not Fashion Police.

Correct; the only subchannel WIVB has right now is CourtTV, which was recently resurrected by Katz Broadcasting (which is part of Scripps)and airs on the .2 subchannel(ironically, Scripps owns WKBW-TV...but they don't have much room to add any more; they current have Grit and CourtTV Mystery(formerly known as Escape)).

Also: Decades is exiting the CBS O & O's in quite a few markets and will be moving to Fox O & Os soon(for markets that DON'T have a Fox O & O, right now they're out of luck).

Anyone else realize that the Bisons PBP post has seen a LOT of well-known voices move on to bigger and better things? Consider:

*Pete Weber: Also did PBP for the Sabres and analyst duties for the Bills before getting the call to the NHL and becoming the PBP voice for the Nashville Predators.

*John Murphy: First an analyst for Bills games, he's now THEIR PBP voice.

*Greg Brown: Pittsburgh Pirates PBP TV voice

*Jim Rosenhaus: Now part of the Cleveland Indians radio broadcast team(he'll likely succeed Tom Hamilton when he retires).

So...today, Byrnes Media's new stations, CFLZ/101.1(Fort Erie)and CJED/105.1(Niagara Falls)FINALLY unveiled their new positioners. And they are...

CFLZ: 101.1 More FM
CJED: 105.1 The River

That's about all the info I have on it at this point(that includes formats). Sorry.

As noted, aside from noting the change in ownership and that a new format is coming to 101.1(and, presumably, 105.1 as well), not yet.

I think Byrnes is taking their time with the launch.

Entercom Buffalo is not a fan of any sort of competition.
They bought Magic 102, (was competition to WKSE, switched it to Q, and later Star)
They also bought WGR News radio 55 (switched it to sports so WBEN can have no competition) and then they purchased 107.7 to prevent someone else from doing top 40 in Buffalo.

Entercom must have thrown a huge party when CRTC ruled that Wild 101 (at the time) can not function as a Buffalo targeted station.

Well, Entercom didn't purchase what became WTSS until 1999 from(believe it or not)Sinclair; they were exiting radio to focus on TV. And 107.7 wasn't bought until 2004.

107.7 has the most room to be a deliberate tax write off. It was bought strictly for the purpose of preventing the competition from buying it and launching competition to WKSE.

Except that when Entercom purchased 107.7 in 2004, they yanked the sports format on WNSA likely because it was in direct competition with WGR. It switched calls to WLKK and became Triple A The Lake, then switched to a simulcast of WBEN(which went nowhere fast), leading to what we have now.

One other thing I forgot to mention: CKEY was, again, running a liner today(worded differently)mentioning the change in ownership and pending format change. Just in case anyone forgot.

Also, I don't think Byrnes Media will announce what the new formats are until they're ready.

I honestly think they'll take one of the stations(likely 101.1)and make that AC, giving CHRE some competition. What 105.1 will become....eh, who knows?

CFLZ/101.1 Fort Erie(adult hits; 101.1 Juice FM)and CJED/105.1 Niagara Falls(CHR: 2dayFM)were recently sold to the Burlington, Ont.-based Byrnes Media for $800,000 Cdn., as noted in a recent CRTC decision. Said decision notes that both stations have been losing a lot of money in the past few years-and Byrnes proposed investing in the stations instead of paying what they call "tangible benefits". (I'll let others explain that term in more detail.) That would include training personnel and hiring new staffers, building up the music libraries and improving the infrastructure. (Which is a good thing-at least in CFLZ's case, because every once in a while the station goes off the air!) And they would devote local programming targeted to both of the markets they're licensed to, much as they've done for CIHR-FM in Woodstock(which Byrnes also owns).

Now, to the main point: As of today, BOTH stations are running liners mentioning the new owners and that a new format is coming to both CFLZ and CJED. Whatever it is, they're not tipping their hand....yet.

So...any speculation on what's coming?

Correct you are. The Grand has done a great job of bringing back the CKOC gang. The only other local example I can think of is WWKB, which attempted to recreate the legendary WKBW from 2003 to 2006. For a time, the lineup included Dan Neaverth and Tom Donahue in mornings, Sandy Beach late mornings, Hank Nevins afternoon drive and Jack Armstrong (in North Carolina) in evenings. Ratings were poor and the format died in February '06.

Note, please, that WECK/1230 in the Buffalo market now has Donahue(still doing mornings after all these years)and Neaverth(doing Friday afternoons); Jon Summers, Harv Moore & Mike Jacobs(all Buffalo radio vets)are on staff.

WBBZ's signal barely makes it to St. Catharines, never mind the GTA. And 'BBZ has the same amount of diginets as WKBW does(sort of; their .3 subchannel is a full-time feed of MeTV; 'BBZ does knock out quite a bit of programming, but most of it is on the weekends). WNYO, too, has 3 diginets: American Sports Network; it'll soon merge with another provider and be known as Stadium....Comet...and GetTV.

Here's the full subchannel list for the Buffalo market. Keep for future reference.

WGRZ: 2.2  Antenna TV  2.3 Justice Network
WIVB: No subchannels
WKBW: 7.2 Laff   7.3 Escape   7.4 Grit (moving over from WUTV)
WNED: 17.2 World  17.3 Create
WNLO: 23.2 Bounce TV
WUTV: (refer to RA's post)
WNYO: 49.2 American Sports Network(will be renamed Stadium) 49.3 Comet 49.4 GetTV
WPXJ: 51.2 Qubo 51.3 Ion Life  51.4 Ion Shop 51.5 QVC Over Air  51.6 HSN
WBBZ: 67.2 Heroes and Icons 67.3 MeTV(full time feed) 67.4 Daystar

I don't include WDTB(ch.39) and WBXZ(ch.56) because they're low-power stations.
