Possible album title: The Emperor's New Music
I thought it was just me ... this latest effort sounds like a bad AC/DC cover band, at least the two tunes I've heard.

To be fair.... at least these guys are still making new music, just like Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and their ilk.  I'll give them credit for that.  It's not great stuff, but adequate enough to keep them in mind when the next tour comes to your town.  Let's just not talk about the new offerings from bon jovi, def leppard, tesla, and other so called hard rock bands playing to the soccer mom crowd now.

Here's a review of AC/DC's new album that kinda hit home for me.

Again, the reason I'm so divided on this. Today, it's a patently false claim that an election was rigged. Tomorrow, it may be something you profoundly believe to be true but management or an advertiser doesn't like for some reason.

Where does it stop?

Of course such situations already occur... in this country primarily with entertainment items but news as well.  I still believe we're talking about two different things though.  Sure, a major advertiser may disagree with a presenter's stance on say, religion or the mayor... but again, that's an opinion, not a flat out denial of facts. (aka, a lie).

and as Paterson1 said so well, with freedoms come responsibilities.  I can have the opinion that SOWNY is not the best radio board around, but should i also be allowed to say that its moderator uses it as a front to sell illegal arms to south american countries?

Is there not a difference however between "a controversial opinion" and something that is proven to be a flat out lie?  A lie that has been propagated in order to sow anger and violence.

I too disagree with management interfering in news/information content but i see it as necessary in this context.  As from the other thread, conspiracy hacks, Qanon supporters, and anti-whatever theories are all good for a laugh, unless your tinfoil hat has slipped off and start to believe the nonsense.

There's room to let Durham radio inc's KX 96 & 94.7 to be one at select times if need be, (ie week-end count down could air at same time on both stations) but outside of that, ratings are pretty good.
With no Country station in Toronto and the loss of CHAM as a Country station, I'm sure they're still doing quite well.
Remember, you're talking about a company that somehow survived with very low ratings as a Smooth Jazz station in Hamilton. (less than half of what they have with Country)

Remember as well that Durham will shore up their hamilton operation with the yet-to-be-launched grimsby station.  time will tell whether they use that new signal to target hamilton.

And we also had Studers for a while. Another great r-to-r floor model make. Very dependable and they never chewed up your tape.

I once worked at a station that had the old noisy teletype stuck in a closet, to reduce the clickety-clack they always made.

my ontario cell got the alert right on time at 12:55.... however my friend has a quebec phone number and is in gatineau.... also got it at 12:55 and not 1:55 as the chart above lists for that province.  waiting to see if they get it again in an hour.

wondering if that's a glitch or maybe because gatineau is so close to ottawa that the alert system recognizes it as part of ontario??  any thoughts?

there's also the incentive to start the "hook" much earlier in a song, regardless of its length.  for example, "With streaming now accounting for up to 80% of music revenue, and artists getting paid per play as long as a listener stays with the song for 30 seconds, there’s a huge incentive to cut to the hook quickly. Nearly 40 percent of chart-topping songs now reach their chorus within the first 15 seconds, or about four times more than in 2000."

the above was found in the link here.  On the other hand, according to a recent Alan Cross article, it takes about 650,000 streams per month to make a $15 minimum wage

paterson1 raises excellent points as he/she/it often does.

Yet, can't agree with many of the other opinions here.  I find them out dated and irrelevant to the topic at hand... online streaming services.  Sure, i get that in the olden days, you would be "forced" to watch CanCon on CBC, CTV, etc. or listen to it on radio.  But the fact is, online, you're free to click on whatever content appeals to you.  If you don't want to watch a Cancon doc on how to cook seal blubber or traverse the peterborough lift lock, then don't click on it.  you're not "forced" into watching anything.  get over it.

However, i do understand the argument that any Cancon legislation will likely trickle down into what i'm going to pay per month for netflix or amazon prime.  netflix raised their rates last month, and i downgraded my subscription as a result.

but hey, as long as i still get borat and stranger things and the mandalorian,,, or Cancon letterkenny, baroness von sketch, and trickster, i'm still paying for the content i want to see.  you'd be amazed at the number of movies and tv shows i DON'T watch on the streaming services, so why would a few extra Cancon icons bother me.  i'll skip over those as quickly as i do for all the other crap that doesn't interest me.

in the 90's the CBSC had an issue with "discovery channel" by bloodhound gang....and then of course "money for nothing", dire straits.
There was also a moratorium on "new orleans is sinking" by the hip, and stevie ray's song "texas flood" during hurricane catrina.

My apology if I charged out of the gate too much.  I don't like news people who mislead or exaggerate a point or tell just part of a fact and leave out information.  I respect balance and fairness, I have no time for bias and one sided misinformation, whether it be from the right or left.

I was taking a shot at you in jest.  hyperbole and bias grind my gears as well.  We should even lament the fact we have to have this discussion... but let's face it.  in these times, audiences prefer to interact within their own echo chambers, and some media outlets would rather pander to that than be objective.

I don't agree that there is a need, desire, business case, or even infrastructure to create an ontario-wide radio service.  however, your statement above is an interesting idea.  like if they all contributed to a province or country wide burli-type news system from which to draw reports, or shared music driven blocks between each other.  each station pays into a fund... maybe run by the CCRA or something.... and the programming expenses can be drawn from that.

Of course, there are some crtc regs that prevent too much syndicated or non-local programming, but ya, it's not a bad idea paterson1.  Wanna combine to form a consulting agency for this??

This is why I posed the question to get a handle if it was feasible, desire, need etc.  I had forgotten about CKUA, Alberta's provincial radio network.  Thanks Prod Guy.

CCRA? Are you referring to the CRTC's Canadian Content Development Contributions? Sounds like we may be talking about a few different things here.

As Hansa pointed out, I was actually referring to the NCRA, sry for the confusion.
