+1 for paterson1.  I don't understand why ultra-defenders of free speech think that what you say should be completely unadulterated.  When something is a lie, or hurts someone, that's where the line should stop.

However, there are some people, including radio friends I have on Facebook, that really believe in all of the election theft conspiracy and everything else far-right.  I posted a picture exclaiming my joy over the swearing in of Kamala Harris (more for the historical aspects of it - not the politics).  I was was spammed with all sorts of angry comments from my friends who sit on the far right.  They were extremely insulting, telling me I don't have a clue, or that I don't know what I'm talking about.

And yet, I wasn't even inviting these comments by anything I said.  I was simply happy to see a female person of colour be sworn in as vice president.  The responders were just angry that I won't get sucked in to their Trump-lovin' Dem-hating mindset.  It makes me reconsider social media, and its toxicity.

It's sad Jody but some people really do embrace being deplorable.

About the only positive is they've put it out for all to see what their true character, or lack thereof,  is.   As I could no longer trust their value systems, they'd play a diminished role in my life.  They don't respect you, so why should you respect them?

This is yet another value of having a public broadcaster. There are pluses, and there are minuses. IMHO, the pluses outweigh the minuses as far as the CBC is concerned.

That's when I got my first internet radio & calm returned.

My first internet radio was a C.Crane but it's soon to become a doorstop with aggregator Reciva pulling the plug.  I've moved on to an Ocean Digital WR336N & am well pleased .. 1,000s of stations around the world and NO Static/Interference!

Sorry RA, I disagree. After the lies, anger, insults and disrespect that Americans have been subjected to for the past four years, the response of the media to Biden’s election was totally appropriate.  Van Jones’of CNN totally lost it.
Rightfully so....you can be a parent again and teach your kids that good character and truth DO matter and that
lowlife in the White House does not represent acceptable presidential behaviour. The emotional reaction of the
commentators to Biden’s and Harris’ speeches were very appropriate.  The pending departure of Trump is a breath
of fresh air especially for those news correspondents who have been verbally assaulted by the president.

I do understand what you're saying and it's easy to want to revel in the defeat of someone you see as a danger to liberty. I just want to let the interview subjects say it - not the reporters, who are supposed to be objective.

Fair to point out that Van Jones is a commentator for CNN, not a reporter. His reaction was totally appropriate for his role on the station. It was quite moving and genuine, and a terrific moment of television. He did exactly what they pay him to do.

I guess I'm a purist for this kind of stuff. I like not to know where an individual reporter stands on an issue when they're covering a story. State the facts, set the scene, perhaps give some background. But if they're doing their jobs right, I shouldn't know where they stand on any given issue. Strictly speaking, as a reporter, that's not what they're there for. And it only feeds the narrative about a biased media for those who are convinced that's already the case. In the end, that won't help any of them.

I do understand the point you're making but this is hardly normal times.

I'm a purist in that I expect the President to not lie, mock, insult every single day.  I expect the President to not actively disregard the guidance of the medical e

I am one of those who is not entirely unhappy with the result of the American election. But as I scanned the network coverage of the Biden/Harris victory speeches Saturday night, I have to say I have never seen such one-sided fawning from the reporters.

Frankly, I was very uneasy watching experienced news people telling us how they had tears in their eyes and were clearly giddy after the speeches.

I know it was a tough four years (and it ain't over yet!) but whatever happened to objectivity from journalists? That was embarrassing.

You know what's truly embarrassing?  It name be Trump,

After the disgusting mess we've been subject to these last 4+ years, it must be a massive relief to them they're dealing with an adult again.

Just three days after a major Internet outage silenced John Oakley, the same thing happened to one of his competitors. Jerry Agar was unable to get on the air at his regular 9:08 AM timeslot on CFRB after experiencing technical issues from his home studio in Etobicoke.

John Moore, who had just said his goodbyes to listeners 10 minutes before, was forced to reappear and fill in, while soliciting phone calls as they were waiting for the problem to be fixed. (They also filled in with about 5 minutes of spots before taking that step, but eventually, they couldn't just keep airing non-stop commercials. Although with this station, it's sometimes hard to tell the difference!)
