Lord Black weighs in on CBC

nationalpost.com/opinion

C. Black doesn't "connect" with some on SOWNY so best that those with high blood pressure issues ignore this

Re: Lord Black weighs in on CBC

Why does the entire media industry fawn over this crook?  His every musing is covered like he's Christ risen from the dead.  I don't have to go far to get a white male senior citizen's opinion of the CBC.  I don't need his too.

If you look up arrogant, haughty, conceited, self-important, egotistic, full of oneself, overbearing, pompous,  swaggering, boastful, blustering, patronizing, condescending, disdainful, contemptuous, vain, immodest, lofty, lordly, snobbish, snobby, overweening, supercilious, smug, pretentious, scornful, mocking, sneering, scoffing, hoity-toity, high and mighty, uppity, snooty, stuck-up or snotty in the dictionary, you get Conrad Black.

I don't particularly like the man.

All true, but it also describes many in our media and Canadians as well.  Or I guess in Conrad's case, former Canadians.

Re: Lord Black weighs in on CBC

Lord Black's weekly get-together with Oakley on 640 Fridays at 4:30 is my favourite segment of the week.  I always enjoy his take on current events, even when I don't necessarily agree with him.

How do you really feel about the man?  I sense that you are kind of sitting on the fence here....

Are you actually a former Dominion store employee who had your pension raided by the good Lord?

Re: Lord Black weighs in on CBC

I'm not sure why anyone would think a convicted fraudster is worth listening to, particularly when so much of what he writes is self-interested eg his shameless shilling for and apologetics on behalf of Trump which was in no way connected, I'm sure, with Black trying - successfully in the end - to get him to give him a pardon.

Conrad once described himself as.."somewhat loquacious."  Guess we could add that to the list as well.

Now if a comedian (or actor) was to make a movie about the life and times of Conrad Black instead of Rob Ford...

From Conrad's lips to God's ear...
“For all its corruption and vulgarity, the political system is working,” he (Black) said (in 2016). “Donald is going to be a damned good president."

With insight like the above, I won't be betting the farm on Lord Black's reading of the tea leaves... https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons3/w00t.png

Re: Lord Black weighs in on CBC

Does he still have a chat show on MosesVisionTV? What does Moses see in him? Or do you think Black is giving Moses some money in exchange for airtime?

Re: Lord Black weighs in on CBC

I wish either CBC, CTV or Global would have Conrad on as a pundit once in a while.  Years ago he was  regularly on CBC but I haven't seen him on for quite a while.  The networks always seem to use the same people and should mix it up. All of them are lacking with commentators from the conservative side of the spectrum.  I do give CBC points however for using Stockwell Day on CBC News Network.  He was an unlikely choice but in fact he is a good commentator.  On the other side Tom Mulcair has been excellent for CTV in my opinion. And it also shows how the NDP blew it bouncing him as leader of the party.

From what I heard, the Conservative Party blew it not recruiting Mulcair as a candidate when they had a chance before he joined the NDP.

Also, the comments on this thread are an insightful window on the narcissists of the Big Yellow Board, while  unfortunately adding nothing to any kind of educated assessment of Lord Black. Spare us your petty spite folks, it rings very hollow when weighed against his published record.

Well in my case, not an assessment, just an opinion.   Also, it is pretty hard to recruit someone who doesn't want to join.

Published record or criminal record?

Case in point.

Conrad Black: Trump is nailing it (but the mainstream media would never tell you that)
https://nationalpost.com/opinion/conrad-black-trump-is-nailing-it-but-the-mainstream-media-would-never-tell-you-that?video_autoplay=true

Trump nailing it ?!?!  That's some damn fine BS gaslighting.

Black's an idiot, con man or criminal.  Pick one, pick them all, doesn't matter.  That's the assessment.

Re: Lord Black weighs in on CBC

In 2001...Black renounced his Canadian citizenship, remaining a United Kingdom citizen, which allowed him to accept the peerage (Baron Black of Crossharbour) without further controversy.

In 2007, he was convicted on four counts of fraud in U.S. District Court in Chicago. While two of the criminal fraud charges were dropped on appeal, a conviction for felony fraud and obstruction of justice were upheld in 2010 and he was re-sentenced to 42 months in prison and a fine of $125,000. In 2018, Black wrote a flattering biography of Donald Trump. In 2019, Trump granted him a full presidential pardon. (That alone should disqualify him from anything but membership in tRump's Grifter Club).

The Governor General of Canada, David Johnston, announced Black's removal from the Order of Canada and his expulsion from the Queen's Privy Council for Canada in January 2014.

Oh, and lets not forget his cavalier, money-grabbing treatment of Dominion Store pensioners. These character faults tell us everything we need to know about this former-Canadian huckster. His opinions may entertain the easily-entertained, but I try to avoid hearing from this ex-con, former-Canadian (now musing about re-applying when the coast is clear) miscreant whenever possible.
