A Woman for a day...Rogers turned Jack into a Jill on March 8th

"Playing what she wants", was the new tag line on Friday, as Rogers turned Jack FM into Jill FM across the board...

In honour of international woman's day, Rogers changed up the format a little in Vancouver, Calgary, Smith's Falls and Halifax, playing a blend of female rock/pop music that included: Joan Jett, Heart, Cyndi Lauper and Alanis Morrisette to name a few.

I was listening to CBC2 on Friday too and they went all women in their music selection too, also in honour of the day.

Here is more on the story...

The question I have for the board is, I think this kind of format would work...technically CHFI goes after the women at work market, but I think a music station with a bit of a kick for women, would work.

What say you? As Oakley would ask...

Some of us remember the now defunct CHIC-AM in Brampton, "where the girls are." For a while they aired a staff of mostly female announcers to live up to their name and call letters.

And then there's this - I'm not saying it's right because I never believed it. But way back in the day, I had a PD who was absolutely convinced that you could never play two female artists back to back, insisting it was a proven tune-out. That doesn't mean he'd didn't play music featuring women. Just that there could never be two in a row. Obviously I never agreed with that but it wasn't the first time I'd heard that in music radio circles.

I doubt this credo still exists but I've always wondered where that perception came from.

Rogers also changed the name of its Smiths Falls station to Frank FM a few years ago on Halloween.  And, of course, there was Alice@92.9 on WBUF Buffalo in the late 90s.

CKNT is a good candidate for an all female station

Okay, as long as you're not trying to say that their hockey team plays like girls!

RA, I also had a PD who believe you coud not play 2 female artists back to back.  When I asked him about it....John. Even women don't like it.  Not sure where that research came from.

Back in the day, when I liked disco...(don't worry, I had my share of Alan Parsons Albums, Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream and Genesis Albums too), I would have totally been okay to here "You can ring my bell" followed by Labelle singing "Lady Marmalade".

Although not technically labeled as one....CHUM 1045 is a women oriented radio station.  Its run of 80% women.

...and here's the song I think Jill FM should have started off with.
