Mystery Track Posted to Oldies Forum - Solved

I'm not a member of the oldies board and can't reply there but Lorne posted about a track that has driven the internet crazy for a few years. I found the link yesterday and my first guess was the mid western country rock band Heartsfield but I was wrong .The mystery was finally solved at the Steve Hoffman Forum which was a great place to send the mystery to as they usually come through.

Re: Mystery Track Posted to Oldies Forum - Solved

The folks at Steve Hoffman can be counted on and they have solved a number of such mysteries for me that I have found on air checks.

Here's one they got last month. A bit of Cacon that made it to number 74 on RPM. Can anyone guess what it is. Had me stumped as I thought it was Iron Butterfly. I know the answer now but did not know or remember the track.

There is one unresolved air check mystery track that even those folks could not resolve and I have included it here. I think it was taken from a Canadian station around 1973/4. That's why I am posting this thread here.

Thanks very much, Fitz. As you may have already seen by now, I've passed along the answer to the mystery track by Jim Dawson to the oldies forum. I gave both of the other tracks you posted a listen, but I'm not familiar with either of them. Looking forward to finding out what the first one is (and the second one as well if you find out).

Re: Mystery Track Posted to Oldies Forum - Solved

Regarding the first track I posted. Here is a clue. The song is on the RPM chart pictured below though not in it's peak position. Regarding the second track it sounds a bit like early Blue Oyster Cult at least lyrically and seems to reference Marilyn Chambers.

The first track was played on  CFAJ  recently and the second is from a much older tape from I think around 1973/4 but I have reason to believe that the broadcast had Canadian origins but track-wise I am not sure. I seem to have misplaced the original tape which I rarely do with air checks but I know it was not ID'd on the tape and that is why I sent it to the Steve Hoffman forum years ago.
